KAZAMA Grameen was founded in 1991 thru the effort and leadership of Rev. Fr. Sean Connaughton MSSC.
It is a Non-Stock, Non-Profit Microfinance Institution that geared towards providing financial services to low-income and poor families in rural and urban areas who traditionally lack of access to commercial banking and related services like:

It was the year
1991, Rev. Fr. Sean
Connaughton started
a project that aimed
to provide financial
solution and freedom
to the low-income
families in Sta.
Rita, Olongapo City
who are willing to
start their own
small businesses.
This project
provided the
families with
effective
Microcredit
operations for the
purpose of an
income-generation
and livelihood
projects.
Another branch was
established in
Candelaria, Zambales
with the help of the
Basic Ecclesiastical
Community (BEC)
known as the
Sambayanang
Kristiyano.
With the
inspiration of
helping the in-need,
Rev. Fr. Sean
Connaughton applied
the Grameen
Methodology to be
the way of giving
capitals for the
poor family in the
Philippines, started
in the city of
Kalookan (Caloocan
City), Malate,
Manila City and
other places within
the area of Metro
Manila.
The system
rapidly spread over
the area of National
Capital Region (NCR)
and the province of
Zambales under the
different clusters
named:

Kalookan
• Landas Tungo
sa Pag-unlad -
Malate, Manila City
• Gabay Tungo
sa Pag-unlad -
Zambales
In this fateful year
when Rev. Fr. Sean
Connaughton was
assigned at the San
Antonio de Padua
Parish, in Brgy.
Matain, Subic,
Zambales to serve as
the Vicar of the
parish.
It is the same year
where he made the
three cluster
programs united as
one, naming it as
KAZAMA Grameen Inc.
To ensure of helping
the Filipino
families the KGI
management decided
to register the
program in Security
and Exchange
Commission as KAZAMA
Grameen Inc., on May
7, 2001.

under SEC Reg. No.
A200106459 as a
Non-Government
Organization (NGO),
Non-Stock,
Non-Profit
Organization with a
mission to help the
poor family by means
of an effective
microfinancing
system, principles
and guidance in
giving capital by
following the
modified Grameen
Methodology.
On October 27, 2017, the Board of Trustess amended the corporate name by-laws and artcles of incorporation of the company and adopted the name KAZAMA Grameen Microfinance Inc. (KGMI) in compliance to Microfinance NGO Act of 2015 (Republic Act 10693). The amendment was approved by Security and Exchange Commission on December 13, 2017.
